Celebrate Halloween with These Spooky Fun Family Events

You don’t have to wait until Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween as the McLean area is packed with October activities to frighten and entertain your family.

Check out these 10 super spooky events:

1. THE GLOW: A Jack O’Lantern Experience

Where: Lake Fairfax Park (1400 Lake Fairfax Dr., Reston, VA 20190)
When: Starts Oct. 4 recurring weekly on Sunday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday until Oct. 28
THE GLOW features a Halloween landscape with more than 5,000 hand-carved and illuminated pumpkins. The walk can take from 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Fields of Fear

Where: Cox Farms (15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, VA 20120)
When: Starts Oct. 5 recurring weekly Friday, Saturday until Nov. 3
Over 20 acres of frightening fun from a “Cornightmare” maze to the Dark Side Hayride plus bonfires, Karaoke, giant slide, food and more.

3. Madhaunter’s Madhouse

Where: Workhouse Arts Center (9601 Ox Rd. Lorton, VA 22079)
When: Starts Oct. 5 recurring Sunday, Friday, Saturday until Oct. 28
This haunted maze of terror returns for a third season on the 55-acre Workhouse grounds. It has been chosen as Virginia’s 2018 No. 1 “Must-See Haunt” by The ScareFactor.com.

4. Scarecrow Making Workshop

Where: Colvin Run Mill (10017 Colvin Run Rd. Great Falls, VA 22066)
When: Oct. 13-14
Stuffing and guidance is provided, all you have to do is bring pants, a shirt and an old pair of panty hose to make a Scarecrow for your lawn or garden.

5. Air and Scare

Where: Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center (14390 Air and Space Museum Pkwy, Chantilly, VA 20151)
When: Oct. 20.
Indoor trick-or-treating is featured along with creepy crafts, spooky science experiments and other Halloween-themed activities.

6. Halloween Parade

Where:  Maple Ave. in Vienna
When: Oct. 24
The 72nd Annual Halloween Parade is the granddaddy of all October events. The half-mile parade lasts about 90 minutes and is held rain or shine.

7. Historic All Hallows Eve

Where: Sully Historic Site (3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly VA 20151)
When: Oct. 27
Trick or treating, storytelling, games and crafts highlight this event.

8. Halloween Carnival

Where: Falls Church Community Center (223 Little Falls St. Falls Church VA 22406)
When: Oct. 27
This carnival has been bringing smiles to little ones for more than 30 years with games, crafts, haunted house and a creepy creature show.

9. Happy Halloween 5K

Where: W&OD Trail in Falls Church (1120 W. Broad St., Falls Church VA 22046)
When: Oct. 27
Burn off those trick-or-treating calories with the race that features runners in costume.

10. Boo at the Zoo

Where: Roer’s Zoofari (1228 Hunter Mill Rd, Vienna VA 22182)
When: Oct. 27-28
