Celebrate America’s birthday in star-spangled style at McLean’s 35th annual July 4th fireworks show. In previous years 5,000+ people witnessed the spectacle.
The family-friendly Independence Day Celebration, hosted by the McLean Community Center, will feature a DJ and food trucks.
The free event will be held at Churchill Road Elementary School (7100 Churchill Rd. McLean, Va. 22101) on Wednesday, July 4 with the grounds open at 6:30 p.m.
Free shuttles will run from satellite parking lots located at St. John’s Episcopal Church (6715 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Va. 22101), St. Luke Catholic Church (7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Va. 22101) and McLean Baptist Church (1367 Chain Bridge Rd. McLean, Va. 22101). Handicap parking will be accessible at all three satellite lots.
Event organizers remind residents that smoking, alcohol, vaping, glass containers, personal fireworks, weapons and pets are not allowed on the school grounds.
Families are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the celebration. Fireworks will be begin at sunset (approximately 9:10 to 9:15 p.m.).
In 2017 fireworks enthusiasts were treated to a 20-minute show put on by East Coast Pyrotechnics. The crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang along to the national anthem, Whitney Houston’s recording of the Star-Spangled Banner, before the first shell burst into the Northern Virginia sky.
The rain date for the show is Thursday, July 5.

Falls Church Fireworks
The Falls Church free July 4th event features a fireworks show at George Mason High School (7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Va. 22043) that can also be seen from the Northern Virginia Graduate Center parking lots or at the Jack Gambill Athletic Fields.
Food trucks will be on hand, including fare from Margaret’s Soul Food, Los Wingeez and others featuring shaved ice, cotton candy and ice cream.
DC area popular party band “Turtle Recall” will perform at 7 p.m. The event opens at 6 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to bring flat-based chairs and blankets to sit on. They are reminded that alcohol, smoking, glass containers, fireworks and pets are not allowed.
Only handicap parking will be available at the high school but residents can park for free at West Falls Church Metro Station parking garage near the campus.
Great Falls Hometown Celebration
Great Falls will kick things off on July 4th with a 5K run at 8 a.m. followed by a parade at Great Falls Village Centre at 10 a.m.
Stay around after the parade for food and live music.
At 6 p.m. Turner Farm Park (925 Springvale Rd, Great Falls, Va. 22066) will feature live music, contests, games and food trucks. Fireworks will follow at sunset.
Vienna Fireworks Show
Vienna’s fireworks show is slated to start at 9:30 p.m. on July 4th at Yeonas Park (1319 Ross drive SW, Vienna, Va. 22180).
Local band Mars Rodeo will provide music at the free event that starts at 7 p.m. Food and drink will be available.
